MacDONALD, Kathryn “Kathie” Elizabeth (nee Groff)

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Kathryn MacDonald, on October 1, 2026, age 69. Beloved wife to Russell MacDonald. Proud step-mother to Karen MacDonald (John Sharp) and Greg MacDonald (Lisa Halls). Cherished grandmother to Ashleigh, Summer (Pierre), Cody, Richard and Eric. Dear sister of the late Wayne Groff (2017), Gene Groff (Jan), and Patty Groff (Andrew). Dear aunt of Jason Groff (Nicole), Marshall, the late Amanda Groff (2020). She will be sincerely missed by all who knew her, especially her German Shepherd: Bella. Kathie was a woman who embraced life with warmth, kindness, and an adventurous spirit. Raised on a farm in New Dundee, she grew up raising Jersey cattle and operating John Deere equipment, developing a lifelong connection to agriculture. Kathie’s career took her many places. Through the Agricultural Leadership Program, she travelled extensively, including to Scotland and Wyoming, and explored across Canada and spending several winters in Arizona with her husband, Russ. She spent the final seven years of her professional career at Woodrill Farms Ltd., before retiring in 2020. After retirement, she continued to give generously of her time, serving as Secretary-Treasurer of Eden Mills Community Cemetery alongside her stepson, Greg, and as the editor for the I.H. Tractor Club. She approached her work with incredible care and compassion. Kathie was outgoing, pleasant, kind, and generous. She had a fabulous personality, loved life, and made friends wherever she went. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Arrangements entrusted to Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon St, Guelph, ON. Private family service will take place. A Celebration of Kathie’s Life will be announced at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family. Donations and condolences can be made on the memorial page at www.gilbertmacintyreandson-hart.com
