LYNDEN, Barbara (Allen)
Barbara passed away peacefully in the early hours of March 17, 2026 at the age of 93, after a short stay at Groves Memorial Community Hospital. Barbara was the youngest of three daughters of Thomas and Carie Allen of Belleville. She was the loving wife of John (Jack) Lynden who predeceased her by almost 17 years. She was the much loved mother of Melody, Allen and Laurie and the very proud grandmother of Rachel. Her cuddle buddy “Missy” (kitty cat) is also missing her dearly. Barbara had a bout of cancer in her mid-fifties which she successfully overcame. Shortly afterwards she joined Jack in retirement after a full and very satisfying primary school teaching career which she adored. She finished her career teaching grade one, her favourite, at Unionville Public School. She and Jack moved into her dream home in Fergus in 1989, where she became an active member in the community, a supporter of Melville United Church and long time volunteer at the local Wellington County Museum, teaching busloads of students on their field trips to the museum. Summers were spent at “the cottage” that Jack built with his three teacher buddies in 1968 (it still stands). She enjoyed canoeing, swimming, and driving her pedal boat on calm summer evenings. Friends will be received at the Graham A Giddy Funeral Home, 280 St. David St. South in Fergus, on Friday, March 27, 2026 for visitation from 2:00 to 4:00pm and 6:00 to 8:00pm. A memorial Service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Saturday March 28, 2026 at 12:00pm and will be followed by a reception at Melville United Church, 300 St Andrew St W, Fergus. Memorial donations can be directed to the Children’s Wish Foundation or Melville United Church. Visit www.grahamgiddyfh.com for Barbara’s online memorial.
