LUCAS, Dorothy May (née Thorne)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Dorothy Lucas (née Thorne), on June 15th in Guelph, Ontario. She was 92. Dorothy was born in 1934 in Guelph into a large family and often spoke of her dad peddling around town gathering loose firewood. Her family later moved to Oakville, where she met and married our father, William (Bill) Lucas. She and Bill both loved the outdoors and had a strong work ethic. In 1971, our family moved to a farm where we all learned the trade together. Our mom never steered away from the job at hand, including wrestling cattle into the treatment corral or corralling the odd escapee in her fancy work attire. She worked for many years at White’s Garage in Alma, where she loved talking to and getting to know the people who came into the shop. Our parents loved spending time at the cottage at Red Bay. We all spent many Thanksgivings there with our growing families. Our mother loved having her family around and celebrating special occasions. She was a great cook and enjoyed cooking for the people she loved. She had a passion for feeding birds and watching new species come to her feeders. She was very generous and never forgot a birthday. She will be greatly missed. She was predeceased by her spouse, Bill. She loved and is loved by her children John (Kim), Shirley (Dave), Lisa (RD), and Keith (Michelle), her 10 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Elliott Community in Guelph and are greatly appreciated. Sometimes in death the passing is a blessing, but it leaves us with a void that cannot be filled. We will miss you, Mom, and though the world has lost an angel, heaven has gained one.
