Co-ordinator Lorne Underwood and volunteers hosted the Canadian Foodgrains Bank 10th annual curling bonspiel on March 5 at the arena in Clifford.

Matt Lubbers and his team of Albert Lubbers, Eric Rae, and Phil DesJardine won the 8:30am draw with a score of 19.75 points and continued their winning streak all the way to capture the trophy.

Clifford Rotary, Tom Gibson, Ron McIntosh, Jennifer Van Dyk, and Harry Winkel rounded out the 8:30am draw leaving B.J. Demerling, Scott Dunn, Mike Landry, Brian Molto, Cory Osmond, Bill Raynard, Jeremy Underwood, and Leonard Underwood to fill the 10:30am draw.

Each curler enjoyed a luncheon prepared and served by Ellen Underwood, Arthena Underwood, Marlene McHarg, and Marilyn Hohnstein.

Guest speaker Caitlan Harvey shared a story of her adventures on a food study tour in Ethiopia. She is the niece of Louise and Ron McIntosh. Her slides offered a firsthand look at the conditions that affect the cultivating of fertile land for the production of crops and the raising of livestock.

Clifford has partnered with Grace United in Hanover and continues to work with Maple Grove United in Oakville. They have planted sweet corn, grain corn, hay, oats, pumpkins, soybeans, and winter wheat. Anyone interested in having a crop planted on their land may contact Underwood at 519-392-8573.
