LOVELL, Gwynneth “Gwynn”
After a long life, well lived, Gwynn Lovell (née Aitchison) passed away in the early morning of a day best spent in the garden. Left to celebrate her 95 years are her daughters, Lynn (Mike) and Sandy, and her son, Jeff (Sylvie). Gwynn adored her two grandsons, Con and Ben Lovell, and took great pleasure in watching them become principled and determined young men. Gwynn is also survived by her brother-in-law, Jim Burr, and her niece and nephew, Suzanne Shepley (Dave) and Rob Burr. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Bob (1998); her parents, Hazel (Fasken) and Reginald Aitchison; her brother Bill and sister-in-law Mary; and her sister-in-law, Elinor (Lovell) Burr. She is also predeceased by her cousin, Bette Bard, her companion on many improbable and adventurous road trips as young women. Gwynn grew up on the family farm in Pilkington Township, outside of Elora, surrounded by her extended Fasken family and a small, close knit rural community. Her early experiences during the Depression and war years informed the values she carried forward: her devotion to family, friends and neighbours, and the quiet hospitality she offered through exceptional baking and front-porch chats. We are all better for her gentle—sometimes pointed—humour, her thoughtful insights, and the delight she found in the natural world. Gwynn’s family wishes to extend special thanks to her neighbours on Gatewood and the many friends who supported her following Bob’s death; entertained her at a cottage, a bridge table, or with an impromptu dinner or glass of wine; and made it possible for her to spend her recent years in a safe and familiar place. We also thank the carers and new friends she met at Chartwell Westmount, and Dr. Yew and the palliative care team who eased Gwynn’s final days. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00pm, on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. A reception will follow. A private family interment will take place at Woodland Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Nutrition for Learning, Community Support Connections, or the Ennottville Historical Library would be appreciated by the family. Donations may be made at the funeral home or online directly through the charity’s website. Please call the funeral home 519-749-8467 to inform the family of your online donation.
