FERGUS – The Centre Wellington Fire Department is reminding people not to leave unattended pots on the stove after a 911 call on Dec. 15.

Deputy Chief Jonathan Karn said the call came in around 3:45am as a fire at 450 Athol St. in Fergus but the Fergus detachment arrived on scene to find a pot had been left on the stove.

“There was no fire, just smoke.” he said.

“The tenant had fallen asleep. Fortunately, another tenant saw the smoke and called 911.”

The tenant was awake and had moved the pot from the stove by the time firefighters arrived.

Karn said they were on scene for about an hour to remove smoke.
