Local development charges compared

In light of Wellington North’s consideration to scale back its development charges, a look at charges across Wellington County was considered appropriate.

Even with lower proposed charges, Wellington North would still not be at the bottom of the list where development charges are concerned - that would be Minto for residential charges, and Guelph-Eramosa for non-residential charges (in rural areas].

Centre Wellington would be tops for implementing charges for residential development in rural and urban areas.

And while it topped the list for charges of non-residential development in rural areas, it seems Guelph-Eramosa’s fees for development within Rockwood are even higher.

TownSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON

- Single detached and semi-detached, $9,611 (rural) and  $17,930 (urban];

- Non residential - $3.39 per square foot  (rural]  and $8.26 square foot(urban);

Town of Erin

- Single detached and semi-detached, $7,836 (rural) and $12,683 (urban];

- Non residential, $3.13 square foot (rural] and $4.96 square foot(urban);

TownSHIP OF GUELPH ERAMOSA

- Single detached and semi-detached, $4,882 (rural) and $12,720 (Rockwood);

- Non residential - $0 (rural) and $8.90 a square foot (Rockwood);

TownSHIP OF MAPLETON

- Single detached and semi-detached, $3,602 (rural) and $6,686 (Drayton) and $5,357 (Moorefield), non-residential - $1.35 a square foot (rural) and $3.04 square foot (Drayton), and $2.31squarefoot (Moorefield);

Town of MINTO

- Single detached and semi-detached, $2,064 (rural) and $3,605 (urban]

- Non residential, $0.83 a square foot (rural) and $1.36 square foot (urban);

TownSHIP OF PUSLINCH

- Residential, $3,656; and

- Non residential - $1.86 square foot;

TownSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH (Proposed]

- Single detached and semi-detached, $3,500 (rural) and $10,000 (urban);

- Commercial, $1.29  square foot (rural) and $2.93  square foot(urban);- Industrial, $0.66 square foot (rural) and  $1.49 square foot (urban); and

- Warehouse, $0.34 a square foot (rural) and $0.75 a square foot (urban); and, Wind turbine, $2,949 each.
