It looks like coyotes’ tastes could be  changing in Puslinch Township.

On Nov. 2, as Puslinch councillors discussed a recent livestock valuer’s report, they discovered ostrich is now on the menu for the local carnivores.

Two were reported as killed overnight between Oct. 4 and 5. The report indicated signs of struggle as well as puncture wounds with bruising.

In addition, there was extensive damage to fencing as a result of the animals being chased.

Regionally, incidents of predation include nightly coyote howls.

The owners had already taken steps to fence in the ostriches at night and installed lighting in the yard. Livestock valuer George Nap believed Colin and Ann Peace did take reasonable precautions.

Council subsequently approved the $2,000 claim.
