Little Cluckers hold first 4-H club meeting

The first meeting of The Little Cluckers Wellington County 4-H Poultry Club was held on Sept. 8.

Our leader, Laura Bailey, started the meeting with roll call; each member named one thing they knew about poultry and one thing they would like to learn. Next, we moved onto elections, where each position was filled as follows: president, James Bailey; vice-president, Nevin Bannerman; secretary and press reporter, Briana Kerr.

We then discussed new business. First, a name for the club was needed and after much deliberation and some very interesting and creative suggestions, The Little Cluckers was voted the winner. Second, we decided for our achievement the members will be putting together a display for the Erin Fall Fair.

The meeting was then handed over to the leaders and we learned about what poultry is, what types there are, what they are used for, proper housing and health.

We ended the meeting by learning parts of the chicken, duck and turkey. The meeting was closed with the 4-H motto, Learn to do by doing. The next poultry club will be held Wednesday, Sept. 15 at the Bailey farm.
