It looks like it will still be life in the slow lane on Wellington Road 109.
At the Oct. 31 Centre Wellington council meeting, Mayor Kelly Linton noted that at the previous week’s county council session, there was discussion on increasing speed limits on some roads within Wellington County.
Staff were tasked with reviewing the speed limits in the northern part of the county to see whether 90km/h zones might be acceptable on some county roads.
Using the Transportation Association of Canada guidelines, Linton said only one strip of Highway 9 was affected.
The 7.5km stretch of Wellington Road 109 – from the end of the 70km/h zone just south of the roundabout at Wellington Road 5, to the 70km/h zone as one approaches Teviotdale – just satisfied the criteria.
“Since it only affected one road, we didn’t think it was that important to move the speed limit up to 90km/h,” said Linton. “So for the speeders among us, you will have to stick close to 80km/h.”
