Libraries can help people get cozy this fall

November brings shorter days and colder weather. It’s time to pull out our winter wardrobes and curl up by the fire with a good book. In Scandinavian countries, the concept of creating warmth and comfort through simple pleasures is known as hygge (pronounced ‘hoo-geh’).

Hygge means something different to everyone – perhaps it’s a loaf of fresh bread, a game night with friends or family or a new craft project. If hygge for you means getting creative, join one of the many crafting programs offered at our branches this November and get inspired to make homemade gifts or cozy creations.

Explore our wide selection of books to learn new skills like crafting or baking. Planning a cozy family night in? Borrow one of over 350 different games available at Wellington County Library branches.

For more ways to bring hygge into your life, check out one of these great titles, available through your library:

Hygge: The Danish Art of Happiness, Marie Tourell Søderberg;

My Hygge Home, Meik Wiking;

Craft Your Own Cosy Scandi Christmas, Becci Coombes;

Making Winter: A Hygge-Inspired Guide for Surviving the Winter Months, Emma Mitchell; and

Scandinavian Comfort Food, Trina Hahnemann.
