Legal opinions are slowing development of Murphy lands

Legal opinions from the township and the developer seem to be slowing down potential residential and commercial development south of Mount Forest

At the beginning of the council meeting Monday, Mayor Mike Broomhead said one of the in-camera sessions at the start of the meeting was about legal information about the Avila Investments proposal for the Murphy lands south of Mount Forest.

On the night’s agenda, was a bylaw to amend an agreement of purchase and sale to Avila Investments Limited.

Broomhead said that as a result of the closed session, another closed session would be needed to review that legal advice.

“We’re going to be too long in camera. There needs to be more discussion before we decide whether we pass it or not,” he said.

Broomhead said legal advice and reports from both sides are involved now, and staff would forward information if the bylaw passed or not.

As of press time, the information has yet to be forwarded to the Advertiser.
