Helen Ritchie (Morris) Kreller of Clifford passed away at Strathcona LTC, Mount Forest on Thursday, July 16, 2026 in her 96th year. Wife of the late Melvin Kreller. Mother of Dorothy Stewart of Kitchener, John and Marg Kreller of Elmira, and Margaret Kreller and Kevin Kowal of Normanby Township. Grandmother of Anna Kowal and Mary Kowal. Sister of May Neilson of England and sister-in-law of Anne Warnick of Tavistock. Godmother to Jeannette Hamilton, Tom Kreller, Merle Marshall and Lana Fleming. Aunt to several nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by her sister Edith Cross and her husband William, and by her brothers-in-law William Neilson, Arnold Kreller, Bruce Kreller and Melvin Warnick. Helen was born November 14th, 1930, to parents Mary (McKay) and George Morris, of Motherwell, Lanarkshire, Scotland. The eldest of three siblings, she was educated in Motherwell and later attended Logan and Johnson Colleges prior to entering nursing school. After qualifying in nursing and midwifery, she practiced as a community midwife in her home town. Helen viewed nursing as a calling rather than a job. In 1956 there were opportunities to work abroad and she was hired for a nursing position in Canada where she worked as a Registered Nurse at Listowel Memorial Hospital. Although she worked in paediatrics at Listowel, her specialized training in Scotland was utilized and called upon for cases in delivery and first floor. On September 19th, 1959, Helen married Melvin Kreller and they resided on the family farm in Howick Township and had three children. She was dedicated to both home and nursing, instilling a strong work ethic in those around her. A pair of knitting needles were always in her hands and she won multiple prizes in various fall fairs and had projects entered into the CNE. She learnt to quilt and sew becoming part of the church groups, choir, and a cookie lady at VBS. In 1994, Melvin and Helen moved to Clifford when retiring off the farm. They enjoyed travelling to meet people and see new things, and enjoyed the company of family and friends in their home. Their door always open and everyone welcomed, with the kettle on for a cuppa tea and something to go with it. In her recent years, she resided at Strathcona in Mount Forest and helped care for Melvin and tried to maintain independence for herself. With unmatched dedication to nursing and a desire to help others, her empathy was extended and demonstrated in all her life vocations. She continued to practice these principles up until the final days, not only helping others but mentoring the next generation of nurses. Cheerio wee lass, away home. Visitation was held at the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston on Tuesday, July 21 from 1:00 to 3:00pm. The funeral service was held at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Clifford on Wednesday, July 22 at 11:00am. Interment in Howick Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Howick Township. Memorial donations to St. John’s Lutheran Church or WRHN Orthopedic Unit, Kitchener would be appreciated.
