KOUMARELAS, Marina

It is with profound sadness that the family of Marina Koumarelas (née Barla) announce her passing on Monday, May 4, 2020 at the age of 67. She peacefully passed away, due to complications from liver disease. She was born to the late John and Maria (née Gardikiotis) Barla on July 16, 1952, in Astrous, Greece. She came to Canada in the late-1960s. On January 26, 1974, she married Michael Koumarelas and they lived together in Toronto, Ontario, and raised two sons. In 2004, she and her family relocated to Teviotdale, Ontario where they were the proud owners of the Teviotdale Truck Stop. Marina will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of 46 years, Michael; adoring children, Demetrios (Jasmine), and John (Tiffany); her beloved grandson, Michael; faithful sisters, Vasiliki and Anastasia; and many nephews, nieces and their families, and friends who will miss her dearly. Marina was preceded in death by her father, John, her mother, Maria, her sisters, Eleni and Marietta. A funeral service honouring her life was held on Saturday, May 9, 2020, at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Toronto. She has been laid to rest at Pine Hills Cemetery in Scarborough.
