KOENIG, Don
Donald George Koenig of Seaforth passed away at Seaforth Community Hospital on Saturday, October 17, 2026 in his 91st year. Beloved husband of Betty (Kennedy) Koenig for 66 wonderful years. Loving father of Susan & Bill Garrick of Seaforth, George & Brenda Koenig of Listowel, Theresa & Michael Darroch of Fergus, and MaryLou & Paul Looser of Lougheed, Alberta. Cherished grandfather of Alexander, Lisa, Melissa, Tiffany, Scott, and Adam. Alex has been waiting in heaven for Grandpa to arrive. Also welcoming him at Heaven’s gate are parents Eldon and Mary (Weber) Koenig, brothers Jack and Lorne, sister-in-law Jean, and brothers-in-law Chester, Leon, Elwood and Russell. Loving brother to Darlene Baird of Hanover, Bruce & Bonnie Koenig of Southampton, and Earl & Linda Koenig of Fordwich. Dear brother-in-law to Vera Koepke, Marion Behrns, Bruce & Ellen Kennedy, Gerald & Doreen Kennedy, Walter Bender, and Elaine & Larry Capes. His many nieces and nephews enjoyed listening to stories from Dad’s past and joking with him. His big, friendly smile was a gift to all. Don spent his career building beautiful creations with brick and stone. The work, scattered across Southern Ontario, is a testament to his skills and creativity and serve as a reminder of his life’s work. From this wonderful role model, his children and grandchildren learned the value of hard work and dedication to excellence. Dad enjoyed working in his garden with mom. They travelled extensively and enjoyed nature and camping. He read continuously and we all enjoyed debating the finer points of Canadian history and current politics. Above all, Dad valued his family and good friends. He believed in family unity and the importance of never leaving without saying ‘I love you.’ Don will be missed by all who knew him. The world was truly a better place because he was in it. Visitation was held at the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00pm. The funeral service was held at Knox-Calvin Presbyterian Church, Harriston, on Wednesday, October 21, 2026 at 11:00am with reception that followed. Interment in Fordwich Cemetery. Memorial donations to Ronald McDonald House, London, or SickKids Hospital would be appreciated. Online condolences may be left at www.hardyleefuneralhome.com
