Puslinch Mayor Dennis Lever is the latest in the southern round of  Diamond Jubilee recipients.

As the Feb. 7 meeting begin, CAO/clerk Brenda Law announced “before you begin the meeting Mr. Mayor, we were surprised this week to discover a package delivered by the mail courier - a special surprise.”

Law said “apparently you are a recipient of one of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medals from David Lloyd Johnston, Canada’s Governor General.”

The letter from Johnston stated he was pleased to award the medal.

Johnston also thanked Lever for his contribution to his peers, the community and to Canada.

Law noted that since the medal came to the office, “we thought we’d do something special.”

For a few moments, Mayor Dennis Lever was speechless.

“I’m kind of overwhelmed here.”

Lever said he knew the other medal recipients in Puslinch “and I don’t really consider myself in the same league.”

He added, “this is indeed a great honour. I’m thrilled.”

Lever quipped that he’d told his wife earlier that he hadn’t anticipated much happening at the day’s meeting.

He also had not expected to see his son Michael in attendance either.
