A kickoff barbecue for 2016 International Plowing Match volunteers was “extremely successful,” according to IPM committee chair and Minto councillor Ron Faulkner.

He reported on the event, held Aug. 27 in Harriston, at the Sept. 2 council meeting.

Minto has been chosen as the site of the International Plowing Match and Rural Expo to be held Sept. 20 to 24, 2016.

The event will be hosted south of Harriston on Wellington Road 109 on the farm of Anne and Earl Schneider.

Faulkner said 150 volunteers signed up to help out on a committee at the barbecue and a similar number took home additional sign-up forms.

“So I’m ecstatic about that,” he said.

Faulkner said the committee plans to organize a similar event in the Marden area in order to provide residents of the southern portion of the county an opportunity to volunteer.
