IOANNOU-JOHNSON, Steve (Stylianos)

With profound sorrow, we share the news that Steve (Stylianos) Ioannou-Johnson passed away peacefully on the evening of Sat. July 25th, 2026, having just celebrated his 67th birthday on July 5th at his beloved Sauble Beach. Over the past 16 months, Steve courageously battled acute myeloid leukemia. Steve will be dearly missed by his wife and best friend of 47 years, Lisa Myers; mother Magdalena (Strahl) Johnson; brother Michael Johnson (Heather McLaverty); brother-in-law Jayson Myers (Sandra); feline daughters Jeanie and LindyAnna; and fille de coeur Aurélie Hébert. Papy Steve will be sorely missed by Julien and Maya Hébert. Deeply missed by a nephew and two nieces who loved him very much; his many dear friends; special friends Jessica Grace, and Ivy and Kemper Cureatz; and all of his beloved cousins who remained his best friends for life. Predeceased by his loving father Anastasios (Tasos) Ioannou-Johnson (1929-1985), and by dearly loved cousins Anna Papadopoulos, Jim Stojsin (Brenda) and George Trypis (Cindy). Born in Toronto, ON, Steve experienced countless adventures as a boy, as he and Mike travelled the world with their parents, living and attending school in Molivos, Lesvos, Greece; Brisbane, Australia; Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Vancouver, BC; and eventually settling in Toronto where Steve’s adventures continued as Chief Petty Officer First Class in Sea Cadets, summer activities in the Yukon, and competitive swimming at the YMCA. Steve attended University of Guelph in 1979 where he met his wife Lisa. He graduated in 1983 with a BA Major in Computing and Information Science and Minor in Fine Art. He was proud of his work as a Computer Programmer/Analyst at University of Guelph and at the major Canadian Banks in Toronto, eventually establishing his own successful consulting company. Steve excelled at all sports, but swimming and golfing were his passions. From 1979 to 1983, Steve was a proud Letterwinner on the University of Guelph Gryphons Swim Team. His travel adventures continued with Lisa, and they lived for 4 years in France, where Steve was thrilled to be able to golf year-round. Steve also loved theatre and singing. He participated onstage and offstage in many local theatre productions and choirs over 50 wonderful years. Steve loved animals, and after retirement, drove injured wildlife from Guelph Humane Society to Hobbitstee Wildlife Refuge, and helped to release rehabilitated wildlife. Steve will be remembered for his love of family, kindness, sense of humour, dramatic - and yes, loud - storytelling, laughter, and friendliness to all. Steve and Lisa are greatly appreciative of the wonderful care Steve received at Juravinski, Guelph General, St Joseph’s Hamilton, and Hamilton General Hospitals. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, 22 September, 2026, from 1:30pm to 5:30pm, at Barn Swallow Fields at Thatcher Farms, 5727 5th Line of Guelph/Eramosa, Rockwood, ON. Speeches will be held at 2:30pm, and family and friends are invited to bring their best memories and stories of Steve to share and enjoy. Refreshments will be served; attire casual. The only thing it will lack is Steve being there in person with his joie de vivre, to relay stories in his unique and dramatic style as only he can, and bring us joy and laughter.
