It may well be a cold day somewhere when ice storm claims are finally settled for municipalities across Ontario.

Minto Treasurer Gordon Duff noted at the April 21 council meeting that the town is still working on settling its disaster assistance claim from the December 2013 ice storm. In mid-February the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing offered Minto an interim payment of about $28,000 on a claim of just over $80,000. At the time, provincial officials stated “final payments, when they are issued, will be based on the outcome of a complete claim review.”

Duff said he recently filed “one last bit of documentation,” on the claim. “I think we’re onto our third review or so,” he told council.

“They haven’t said no yet,” commented councillor Jean Anderson.
