Hospice Wellington releases 2024-25 gratitude report

WELLINGTON COUNTY  – Hospice Wellington released its 2024-25 gratitude report Sept. 17, highlighting the organizations impact on the community.

According to the report, 308 people were served by the organization in-house with at least 1,200 clients supported in the past year. 

Hospice Wellington began in 1980 as a small, community-driven initiative. This year marks 45 years of serving the community. 

Over the past year Hospice Wellington received accreditation through Imagine Canada and Hospice Palliative Care Ontario. 

 Palliative Care Ontario is an organization that champions and improves hospice palliative care across Ontario, focusing on enhancing the quality of life and providing comfort for individuals and families facing advanced, life-limiting illnesses. 

Imagine Canada is a national charitable organization dedicated to providing charities and nonprofit organizations with programs, assistance and resources.

Hospice Wellington reports 142 active volunteers with a total of 12,970 volunteer hours provided. 

Some volunteers were named and honoured in the report for their long-standing commitment to the organization.

Those honoured for 15 years of service included:

– Kelly G;

– Lynn R;

– Doreen ‘Nana’ B; and 

– Sheila D.

Other volunteers recognized for long-standing support included:

– Evelyn M for 40 years of service;

– Yvonne B for 30 years of service;

– Anne H for 25 years of service; and 

– Edith W, Valerie M and Janet M for 20 years of service.

Volunteer Doreen ‘Nana’ B received the June Callwood award for her outstanding commitment to the organization. 

Volunteer Donna C received the Walter and Hanna Boos award for her ability to “bring people together with her warmth and heart.”

According to the report, the organization received  $5.18 million from donations, government funding opportunities and other community initiatives.

Government funding accounted for 36 per cent of received funding, with memorials and donations accounting for 41 per cent.

Other initiatives such as the Tree of Remembrance, Hike for Hospice and Retro Royale brought in $42,698, $96,279 and $148,594 respectively.
