Highland dancers take on busy season

FERGUS – Dancers from the Blue Bonnet Lassies School of Highland Dance have been busy this fall with competitions across Ontario.

On Sept. 20, dancers competed at the Western Ontario Highland Dance Association’s Guelph competition. 

In the Primary 4 and under 6 years category, Finleigh MacLeod placed third in Pas de Basques and fourth in Pas de Basques and High Cuts. 

In the Beginner 9 years category, Xara Sobol placed fifth in Sword, and sixth in Flora, Fling and Seann Truibhas. 

In the Beginner 10 years and over category, Hadley Heathers placed fifth in Fling and Ziva Sobol placed fifth in Sword and Seann Truibhas and sixth in Fling. 

In the Novice 9 and under 11 years category, Harlyn Heathers placed fourth in Sword. 

In the Novice 11 years category, Scarlett Jackson placed third in Flora, fourth in Seann Truibhas and sixth in Fling and Sword. 

In the Novice 12 years and over category, Gabby Jackson placed fifth in Fling; and Maribelle McBroom placed fourth in Sword and fifth in Flora. 

In the Intermediate 12 and under 15 years, Cayley Simpson placed sixth in Irish Jig and Sword and Brooke Bailey placed fifth in Fling and Irish Jig. 

On Oct. 25, dancers competed at the British Association of Teachers of Dancing Western Ontario Festival in Guelph. 

In the Beginner 9 and under 11 years category, Isley Sy-Green placed sixth in Flora and Seann Truibhas. 

In the Beginner 11 years and over, Ziva Sobol placed third in Lilt. 

In the Novice 10 and under 12 years category, Scarlett Jackson placed fourth in Lilt.

In the Novice 12 years and over category, Gabby Jackson placed seventh in Flora. 

In the Trophy Fling Beginner 10 years and over Isley Sy-Green placed fourth.

On Nov. 2, dancers competed at the Western Ontario Highland Dance Association’s Halton competition. 

In the Beginner 10 years and over category, Ziva Sobol placed second in Reel, fourth in Sword, and fifth in Seann Truibhas; Hadley Heathers placed fourth in Seann Truibhas and sixth in Reel. 

In the Novice 9 and under 12 years category, Scarlette Jackson placed third in Reel. 

In the Novice 12 years and over category, Gabby Jackson placed fourth in Reel, and Sixth in Fling, Sword and Seann Truibhas.

In the Intermediate 12 years and over category, Cayley Simpson placed sixth in Lilt.

On Nov. 8, Maribelle McBroom competed at the Highland Dancers Association of Ontario Fall Nationals competition in Vaughan. In the Novice 11 years and over she placed third in Sword, fourth in Seann Truibhas and sixth in Flora.

After an eventful year, dancers have finished the competition season of 2025.
