Health units get one-time funding from province
Requests were part of 2025 budgets for two health units
GUELPH – The Ministry of Health has allocated an additional $1.37 million in one-time funding to area public health units.
Perth-Wellington MPP Matthew Rae announced on Feb. 10 that Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health (WDGPH) will receive $884,206. Huron Perth Public Health (HPPH) will receive $488,400.
WDGPH spokesperson Kelvin McDermott stated in an email the local health unit received approval for this funding in December as reimbursement for programming costs between April 1, 2025, and March 31, 2026.
“The majority (about $550K) went toward respiratory season vaccine clinics, while the remainder went to some basic facility and equipment maintenance as well as hiring practicum students to ensure continued supply of trained public health inspectors,” McDermott said.
Huron Perth made a request for additional funding last February, HPPH communications coordinator Katherine Horst wrote in an email.
“This funding is only eligible to cover the following requests: vaccine fridge, HPPH Clinton site roof renewal, HPPH Clinton site window replacement, public health inspector practicum (one student placement), and MOH (medical officer of health) compensation.
“These one-time requests were part of our annual budget request sent in February 2025. It is at the province’s discretion when these funding notifications are shared externally.”
