HARRISTON – A party is coming and you’re invited.
Celebrating its 10-year anniversary, the Harriston Street Party returns Aug. 9 from 9am to 2pm.
“It’s a jam-packed day full of entertainment [and] activities for little ones to grown adults,” town economic and community development director Belinda Wick-Graham said.
Harriston Rising, a community-led movement, will be hosting the typically well-attended event.
Festivities are located on Elora Street, between Arthur Street and Mill Street as well as Maitland Street.
The day will begin with a breakfast at the Harriston Legion from 7:30 to 11am, at 53 Elora St. S.
Guests can shop Main Street with businesses putting on sidewalk sales.
Graham highlighted the Leslie Motor’s Classic Car Show, that she said “draws a good crowd of people and their nice cars.”
The show will run from 9am to 2pm in downtown Harriston.
DJ Cody, from Palmerston, will be performing all day with tunes for all.
Two markets will appear during the event.
One being the Minto Makers’ Market from 9am to 2pm at Tannery Park, showcasing local makers and creatives.
Vendors announced include:
- The Crafty Owl Co.;
- Sunshine Photography;
- QD Scrapworks;
- Krystal Clear Healing; and
- Dana’s Gift Creations.
“The Minto Chamber of Commerce is doing a youth market which is happening behind the Old Post (Maitland St.),” Graham told the Advertiser.
“There’s a bunch of kids’ activities like balloons, face painting and bouncy castles.”
Guests can also challenge friends and family to classic lawn games, available throughout the day.
The “popular” foam party returns once again from 1 to 2pm on Maitland Street.
“Different this year is the town is not doing a street dance in the evening. Usually we would have a street dinner and dance … but the Harriston Legion is doing a summer night dance party in their parking lot which is just off of Main Street at 7:30pm,” Graham said.
The Summer Night Dance Party is for those aged 19 and older with entertainment from DJ Music Magic.
Downtown restaurants are expected to offer special deals for the day.
Main Street is to be closed off from 7am to approximately 4pm.
“It’s all free besides the breakfast,” she said. “It’s family friendly and affordable.”
The Harriston Historical Society display rooms will be open for all to see from 11am to 3pm, located on the third floor of the Harriston Library. The winners for the Harriston Historical Society Headstone Hunt and Plaque contest are to be announced at 12:30pm outside of the Harriston Town Hall Theatre.
