Harriston Caressant Care residents enjoy trip to Maple Syrup Festival in Belmore

Close to 30 residents, staff, and volunteers from Caressant Care in Harriston joined trip co-ordinator Jaylene Winkler on April 10 for a big yellow bus ride to the Maple Syrup Festival in Belmore.

They arrived to find all kinds of vendors in two rooms selling a variety of hand made items and items of interest.

There were bat houses and bird houses, leather goods, knitted goods, wooden teddy bear tables, a stack of quilts, cappuccino lip balm, beeswax candles, bags of candy, magnetic jewelery, stone power towers, novelty items, and even colourful handknit chickens each wrapped around a plastic egg to fill with treats.

You could also find Tracey deBoer with a full table of baked goods, Ellen Underwood at a table filled with maple syrup and maple syrup treats, and Kirk Wood at a huge counter filled with all kinds of pork products including the same kind of sausage that was being served with each meal.

The music was in full swing on the stage and the audience rarely gave up their seats until the bus was leaving for home. Even the balcony seating in the bleachers looked like it was filling to capacity.

At noon, Winkler escorted the group to their table and they sat to enjoy a fabulous feast of pancakes smothered in butter and the pure goodness of maple syrup with a side order of applesauce and sausage.

Being close to the entrance, you could see the steady stream of people awaiting their turn at the head of the line where the conveyor belt delivered their plate of pancakes.

On the return home, Paula Wood drove slowly in case they found another deer crossing their path through the 40 hills.

The residents delighted in the day and seeing all the wonderful scenery along the way.
