Halloween Haunt brings community to downtown Harriston
HARRISTON – Families from across Minto and beyond were treated to a scary Halloween Haunt in Harriston on Oct. 30, as the annual community event once again brought plenty of seasonal spirit to the downtown core.
Held annually since 2019, the event is organized by Harriston Rising, a Town of Minto committee dedicated to community development and downtown revitalization.
Just before the festivities got underway at 6pm, a long lineup of colourfully costumed families and groups of friends quickly formed as participants awaited registration before setting off along the downtown sidewalks to collect treats and enjoy the Halloween fun.
Organizers were pleased to report to the Community News that 350 families registered for this year’s event, representing approximately 900 participants.
Twenty local businesses and organizations took part, while 10 volunteers helped ensure that all the witches, wizards, ghosts, ghouls and other creative creatures made their way safely along the downtown route.
Although construction in town prevented organizers from closing Elora Street to traffic, additional safety measures were put in place.
Crossing guards equipped with illuminated signs helped participants safely navigate intersections throughout the event.
With hundreds of families taking part, the Halloween Haunt once again proved to be a popular community celebration, bringing residents together while showcasing the enthusiasm and community spirit of downtown Harriston, officials say.
