Guelph-Eramosa announces Canada 150 Floral Contest winners

Lisa Logan-Dayman and Carl Dayman are the winners of Guelph-Eramosa Township’s Canada 150 Floral Contest.

In celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary the township created the Canada 150 Floral Contest, which encouraged residents and business to plant red and white flowers and then submit a photo to the township.

Judges Systke Drijber, Ruth Robinson and John Root sorted through the submissions and chose Logan-Dayman and Dayman as the winners.

They received a painting of the property from Root, a local artist.

The floral contest was one of three township events to commemorate Canada 150.

“This is obviously a big year for the country, the anniversary and we were wrestling to try to figure out a way to celebrate it without spending a lot of money,” said Mayor Chris White.

“We don’t have a lot of money to put into these things.”

The township held the unveiling of the heritage wall in Marden and it also buried a time capsule at the grand opening of the Rockmosa skatepark in August.

“We were pretty happy with the results of that 150 celebration,” White said.

“So much so that I believe we’re going to do it again this year just before the long weekend in August and maybe turn it into an annual event.

“Our way of kind of celebrating Canada Day but not on Canada Day because we’re tiny and people tend to go elsewhere.”
