Guelph Dance Presents Two Shows through IBPOC Artist’s Network Tour

GUELPH – Guelph Dance has announced it will be bringing four dance companies to Guelph for double bill presentations happening Feb. 28 and March 28. 

The Feb. 28 performance is a co-presentation with International Institute for Critical Studies in Improvisation (IICSI) featuring solo works by Newton Moraes and Meryem Alaoui at the ImprovLab, University of Guelph, MacKinnon Building at 87 Trent Lane in Guelph.

The show will start at 7:30pm with ticket prices ranging from $10 and $20.

The program will feature My Dance is Not a Hobby by Newton Moraes and Sand Body by Meryem Alaoui. 

The March 28 performance is a double bill featuring KasheDance and CinnaMoon Collective at Guelph Youth Dance Studios, 42 Quebec St, Guelph, ON.

The show will start at 7:30pm with ticket prices ranging from $10 and $20. This program features Retrospek (excerpt), an ensemble work by KasheDance and Surrendered Spirits, a duet by CinnaMoon Collective. 

These presentations are a part of the IBPOC Artist’s Network Tour: From Words to Action, initiated by wind in the leaves collective. 

Over two years, wind in the leaves collective have coordinated research, conferences, artistic showcases and considerable outreach and planning to support Indigenous, Black, People of Colour dance artists to build touring opportunities. With a recent significant two-year grant from Canadian Heritage, they are launching a pilot touring project to take place in Ontario. The goal is to establish this as a sustainable program to enable IBPOC artists to perform their works across Canada.
