Groves staff receive foundation bursaries

CENTRE WELLINGTON – Groves Hospital Foundation has announced the ten staff recipients of their three education bursaries.

Each recipients receive $500 to go towards additional certifications and education supporting “the vision of health care at Groves Memorial Community Hospital,” as detailed in a hospital press release.

The three bursaries are the GMCH Education Bursary, the Carolyn Skimson Nursing Bursary, and the Betty C. Stark Nursing Award.

In an interview with the Advertiser executive director of the Groves Hospital Foundation Lori Arsenault explained that the bursaries normally go to around five recipients, but this year the amount given was roughly double what it usually is to make up for the fact that there were no bursaries given last year due to the pandemic.

Bursaries are being received by:

– Sarah McCormack;

– Amanda McClure;

– Tiisha Smith;

– Madison Heseltine;

– Abbi van Veen;

– Justine Holmes;

– Jessica Kane;

– Lindsey Corrigan;

– Samantha Howe; and

– Jenna Bushell.

Arsenault commented further on the bursaries in a press release, “we would like to thank all of our generous donors who created these education bursaries to support the educational advancement of our nurses here at Groves Memorial Community Hospital.”

Betty C. Stark Nursing Award recipient Tiisha Smith commented on the impact of the program she’s taking at Conestoga college in the press release.

“The palliative care program through Conestoga College has helped me gain further insight to end-of-life care and the complexities that can unfold.”

Smith noted the program has changed her work practices as well.

“This program has inspired me to implement minor changes with my bedside manner when talking to family members and patients,” she said.

“It is truly amazing to see the far-reaching benefits of these funds, both for the staff that are taking additional education programs, and for our patients and community who benefit from their increased knowledge and skills,” Arsenault added.
