Green

It’s fair to say that Mother Nature has been having some significant mood swings of late.

The forecast for this week suggests she is not through with them either. That’s okay. I’m not going to argue with her. That Mother is fierce. I figure she’s just keeping us humble. It’s good to be reminded that she is always in control. Always.

So, while she has her way with the weather, I’m going to stay positive, dress for Mother Nature’s extremes and think about the colour green, because this is the week to do so. It’s the week of green, for two important reasons: St. Patrick’s Day and the beginning of spring.

By the time you’re reading this, St. Patrick’s Day will be behind us. Some of you will still be feeling the after-effects. That makes me smile, because this is a great cultural event of a beautiful country to celebrate, and if you did so, good on you. But me? I will be in bed before 10pm, so colour me boring. I’ve never been to Ireland, so I can’t claim a true connection. I dream of it though. All the natural hues of green of the Emerald Isle. Sigh. One day.

You know I’m going to be that coworker who wears green to work on St. Patrick’s Day though, in solidarity with the celebrations, because I’m that person. If you don’t join in the shindig, at least support the theme. My glittery shamrock tie got lost in the move to the new house though, so that’s a downer. Still, I’m staying positive and thinking green.

It’s fair to say that green is quickly becoming one of my favourite colours. Not my very favourite, you understand, because I am entirely too loyal to my best colour and I’m not going to tell you what that is, because a person should have a bit of mystery about them. One’s favourite colour is revealing, you know. If yours is red, well, that tells me all I need to know (just saying).

Kelly Green is actually a Pantone colour. Perhaps I’m destined to appreciate the shade, though that version is a bold choice, even for a Kelly. I’m more of a moss green or sage green kinda gal. I’ll take a nice forest green for an accent colour. Keep the olive away though, because that doesn’t even count.

Spring officially begins with the vernal equinox (look at me getting all fancy here) on Friday, March 20th at 10:46am, which means winter will officially be done. Ah, but we’re Canadians, so we know it’s not that simple. April’s forecast is anyone’s guess.

Here again, I encourage you not to despair, but to think green. Nature springing back to life. Renewal. Growth. Green seedlings growing in the little plastic containers lined up against the back window. A future garden of vegetables. Green leaves soon to be on trees. Green grass waiting for bare feet. So much green. Soon, we’ll be whining about how we have to cut the grass. Well, not me, because I’m not allowed near that machine. I’m okay with that.

Whatever this week brings, spring is on the way. Also, Friday is the release of the film Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, starring Irish actor Cillian Murphy, the conclusion of the television series Peaky Blinders. I can’t wait. Date night booked.

Mother Nature, your cooperation would be appreciated. Thanks.
