Centre Wellington councillors have approved amended funding for the Fergus Grand Theatre renovation project.

The decision came at a special council meeting on July 12.

The tender award committee recommendation noted ceiling painting will be funded through the theatre capital reserve, with $91,500 returned to capital reserves ($71,930 to the OLG slots reserve, $19,570 to the general capital reserve).

All of the project costs except for the ceiling painting are eligible for Canada 150 Grant funding.

The tender for the work was awarded to IntegriBuild Construction Management Inc. of Cambridge, which submitted the lowest of six bids at $284,175 (including optional replacement of existing electrical branch circuit panels in the amount of $6,250 excluding HST).

The renovation of the St. Andrew Street West theatre includes the demolition of the existing sidewalk, removal of existing windows/doors, pouring a new raised concrete sidewalk, installation of new accessible doors, and renovation of the theatre lobby to provide regular and accessible washrooms, toilets, taps, and miscellaneous equipment in the washrooms.

A $230,000 successful grant application allows the township to return some money to reserves.
