Grand Taste a tasty success

The upstairs at the Grand River Raceway was packed on April 25 for the annual Centre Wellington Rotary Club’s Grand Taste event.

The club brings in area restaurants who offer culinary  samples.

People can sample from as many restaurants and a wide variety of foods and drink – all of it locally prepared.

Show chairman Noreen Winters said on Tuesday the show attracted over 300 people and she still has no idea how well the silent auction did.

That auction offered art, gift certificates, gift baskets, and other goods like sporting event tickets and tickets to such things as the Elora Festival.

“It was a wonderful turnout,” Winters said.

“All the restaurants were happy.”

In fact, she said, near the end, the food was just about all gone.

“Next year, they’ll make more,” she figured.

The event is held as a fundraiser for Groves Hospital, and Winters said that will be a huge success this year.

“We try for $10,000 but we’re hoping for a bit more this year.”
