Grade 9 Wellington Heights students attend Camp Kintail
GODERICH – A sleep-away camp in Goderich aimed to help Grade 9 Wellington Heights Secondary School (WHSS) students transition to high school.
The trip took place from Sept. 30 to Oct. 2 at Camp Kintail and included 105 Grade 9 students who built relationships with their peers, senior LINK leader students and teachers.
Students had opportunities to develop team building, collaboration and leadership skills through a variety of interactive experiential learning activities.
They participated in archery, rock climbing, sports, small group camp activities and large group games.
For students unable to attend the overnight camp, there was also an extended day camp option to Camp Kintail on Oct. 1 from 9am to 8:30pm, and three days of camp-like activities at WHSS for those students who opted not to make the trip to Goderich.
The Grade 9 camp was coordinated by WHSS head of science Jen Cork, who spent months on the overall planning and organization of the three-day overnight camp.
She was assisted by a group of dedicated teachers and support staff who helped to supervise the activities at Camp Kintail, as well as plan and supervise the activities for Grade 9 students who stayed at WHSS.
Students said they met lots of new Grade 9 students and had fun during their camping experience.
Many said they had never attended a summer camp before, and they were very grateful for the opportunity to do so with their fellow Wolverine students and teachers.
