GOODWIN, Georgina Margaret (Bye)

Georgina Margaret “Jean” Goodwin (Bye), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, nurse, and friend, passed gently after a brief illness on September 17, 2026, at the age of 94. Born on August 8, 1932, in Woolwich Township, Jean lived a life marked by compassion, grace, and service to others. Reflecting the values she held close, she lived life surrounded by friends, family and community. She married her beloved husband Ronald Goodwin on October 29th, 1954, and together they raised six daughters on the Goodwin family farm in Inverhaugh. She was loving, kind, and adventurous. She met life with warmth, good humour, and a spirit that made her a joy to know. Those who were fortunate enough to share in her life will remember her as graceful, funny, and full of love right to the end. Jean was predeceased by her husband, Ronald (2006), and by her daughter, Grace Ann (2024). She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Brenda (Roger), Sharon, Rhonda (Eamonn), Julie (David), and Donna. She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense pride and happiness. She cherished every gathering, conversation, and shared memory. She offered her love freely and generously, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who loved her. Jean devoted much of her life to caring for others through her work as a Registered Nurse at Groves Memorial Community Hospital and with the VON. Nursing was a calling that suited her bright mind and gentle nature. She earned the respect and gratitude of colleagues, patients, and families alike. She also gave her time generously to Bethany United Church and its UCW, Rebecca Lodge and Foodgrains charity, among others over the years. Jean lived a long, wonderful life filled with the things she loved, including our tall, handsome father Ron, with whom she loved to dance. She enjoyed curling and spent many social hours at the Elora Curling Club. She excelled at lawn bowling and euchre, often sharing the events of a rousing game with family and friends. She made time to travel and was proud to have discovered some of this big world. In later years, she joined the Red Hat Society and enjoyed many local theatre events with friends. Her love of fun, fashion and her natural grace left a lasting impression on everyone around her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her, and she will be remembered with deep affection and gratitude for a life well lived. Jean’s family takes comfort in knowing that her long and meaningful journey was filled with love, laughter, faith, and countless treasured memories. She will be deeply missed, and her memory will be cherished, as she was, always. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers, healthcare professionals and friends at Highland Manor Retirement Centre and Groves Memorial Community Hospital for their care and compassion. Jean’s family will receive relatives and friends at 1pm Monday, October 12, 2026, at Hope Springs United Church in Elora for visitation followed by the funeral service at 2pm. A reception with light refreshments will follow the service. A private family burial will take place at 11am on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at the Elora Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wellington VON or The Canadian Foodgrains Bank. Arrangements are entrusted to the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home.
