GARNESS, Bill

William ‘Bill’ Henry Garness of Harriston passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2023, in his 85th year. Loving husband of 59 years to Yvonne (Durose) Garness. Loving father and grandfather to René and her husband Dave Johnson and their children J.J and Ryan and Jo-Anne Garness (deceased) and her son Gregory Hare. Brother of Sally and her husband Doug Munroe of Port Dover, and remembered by his many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parent Leslie & Tessie (Hind) Garness, and sisters Waneeta (Don) Kohli, and Caroline (Bob) Hart. Born in Islington, Bill spent most of his life in Cambridge where he worked for 40 years in the sheet metal industry, an occupation he enjoyed. Bill also enjoyed volunteering, spending many years with the Puslinch Volunteer Fire Department. When he and his wife moved to Harriston he volunteered with the Harriston Legion Branch 296 and was always ready to lend a helping hand. Bill was an avid deer and moose hunter and enjoyed snowmobiling and camping with his family but his favourite past time was sitting and enjoying a beer under the maple tree on the farm with his family, friends and of course his dog. Visitation will be held at the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston on Friday from 6:00 to 8:00pm, where the funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 1:30pm.
