WELLINGTON COUNTY – Local band Folklore Junction has released their debut album, Not This Time.
The album was released Sept. 4 and contains seven original songs.
“We’re really proud of it,” said lead vocalists Jason Hein.
The band consists of four members, Steve Brackett and Jeremy Pey on drums, vocalist and accordionist Barb Grant and lead vocalist, guitarist and song writer Jason Hein.
The band began their journey in 2022 after Hein decided to put his passion for writing music into action.
“I’ve been song writing for close to 30 years now and I wanted to do something with the material and get it out there into the world,” said Hein. “So I reached out to my friend Barb Grant and her husband Alan and we started up the band as a three piece for two years.”
The trio performed live together for two years while also making a point to give back to the community.
“We wanted to do something to give back to the community so we created what is called ‘folk helping folks’ which is sort of our bands mantra,” said Hein.
Folk helping folks sees the band donate a portion of their yearly earnings towards local charities.
“This year so far, we’ve donated just over $2,500 back to local charities,” he added.
After two years, Alan retired from the band, making room for both Brackett and Pey. Now a group of four, the band set out to record their debut album, which took a year to record.
“The title track, I actually began writing over 20 years ago,” Hein told the Advertiser.
The band expressed their deepest gratitude towards their listeners saying the feedback from fans has been “very positive”.
Hein described the band as a “folk country rock band”, and hinted at themes such as the human condition and historical references within the album.
