FLETCHER, John Wesley

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Fletcher, who left us on February 26, 2026, surrounded by the love of the family he so deeply cherished. A man of quiet strength and boundless optimism, John lived a life defined by hard work, a servant’s heart, and a legendary sense of humor. Family was the cornerstone of John’s world. He was the devoted husband and partner to Debbie (née Walser). Together, they navigated life’s highs and lows with grace. A loving brother to Marlene (Vernon), John was a hero to his sons, Joshua (Laurie), Jonathon (Andrea), and Jeremy, passing down his skills in construction and the outdoors alongside his values of patience and leadership. He was a proud and doting grandfather to Gavan, Callum, Brayden, Kylie, Amelia, Gillian, Garrek, Jacob, Rowen, Maddy, Jackson, Bearon, Teagan, and Emilie. John is reunited in peace with his parents, Austin and Marjorie Fletcher; his brothers, Don, Wayne, and Keith; and his grandson, Gavan. John was a man of many hats. Whether he was closing a deal as a real estate agent, commanding a room as an auctioneer, or getting his hands dirty in construction and small engine repair, John found purpose in productivity. He was the king of the “second chance,” famously rescuing broken lawnmowers from garage sales or treasures from the side of the road to refurbish and resell on buy-and-sell pages. To John, work wasn’t just about the task; it was about the people. The friendships he forged through his various careers were memories he held dear until the very end. When Debbie battled cancer, John stepped into the role of caregiver with unwavering devotion. His empathy extended far beyond his own home; he became a staple in the lives of many fellow patients, volunteering for years to drive them to their treatments. He turned a difficult chapter into a mission of service, forming deep bonds with those he helped along the way. John pursued his passions wholeheartedly. He was never happier than when at hunt camp, sharing stories and traditions with his sons and grandsons, who were his ultimate hunt camp buddies. He found great happiness in fishing, camping, and teaching the younger generation the tricks of his trade. Music was a constant companion throughout his life, with classic country—especially Randy Travis—always playing at the top of the playlist. John was a gentle soul who believed that laughter was the best medicine for difficult times. His optimistic spirit and patient guidance made him a natural leader to all who knew him. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, with further details to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Ontario Wildlife Rescue, an organization that reflects John’s lifelong love for the outdoors and the natural world.
