In her 89th year, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 13, 2026, at Groves Memorial Hospital in Fergus. Predeceased by her husband, Douglas Fletcher (d. 2024) and her parents Robert (d. 1981) and Stella (d.1961) Laidlaw. Cherished mother of Marilyn (Leigh) Roeger, Janice (Hugh) MacDonald, Robert (Cathy), and John (Robin). Loved Granny of Shauna and Caroline Roeger, Amy (Nick) Sanders, Scott (Elizabeth) MacDonald, Brandon (Becca) MacDonald, Jessica Fletcher, Charlotte, Glenn, Lynn and Yvonne Fletcher, and Great Granny to Hailey, Kate, Thomas, Hannah, Olivia, Jack, Luke and Penelope. Predeceased by brothers-in-law, Don Blyth, Roy Fletcher, Watty Day and Harry Lasachuk. Survived by sisters-in-law Joyce (Don) Blyth, Shirley (Roy) Fletcher, and Marg (Watty/Harry) Day. Jean lived her whole life in Guelph Township until moving to Heritage River Retirement Home in Elora in 2021. As a young woman, she taught at S.S. No. 5 and S.S. No. 3 one-room schools. After marrying, she devoted her life to raising her family, supporting Doug’s farm work, playing for dances with the family band and volunteering her time playing the piano at area seniors’ homes. She was a member at Knox Presbyterian Church in Guelph for many years. The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the staff at Groves Memorial Hospital, and Heritage River for their excellent care. First visitation was held on Wednesday March 18, 2026 from 6 - 8pm, and second visitation on Thursday, March 19, 2026 from 12:30 - 1:30pm, followed by the funeral service at 1:30pm all at the Wall-Custance Funeral Home & Chapel, 206 Norfolk St., Guelph.  Reception to follow in the Wall-Custance Family Reception Centre. Burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the Wall-Custance Funeral Home & ChapeL 519-822-0051 / www.wallcustance.com. In lieu of flowers, donations to Groves Memorial Hospital or Samaritan’s Purse would be appreciated.  A tree will be planted in memory of Jean W. Fletcher in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest.
