ELORA – Elora and Fergus firefighters responded to a fire call in the alley behind the Elora Brewing Company at 107 Geddes St. at around 4:30am on Jan. 7.
While it initially appeared part of the building had caught fire, in fact the fire was in a utility trailer attached to a vehicle that belongs to the brewing company’s cleaners.
“When we arrived, it appeared (the fire) was to an extension of the building but that turned out not to be the case,” Centre Wellington’s deputy fire chief Jonathan Karn explained in a phone interview.
“Overnight cleaners were in the building, and this was their work trailer.”
Karn said the fire “impinged” on the door to the extension, but it was not destroyed.
Neither was the utility trailer, though it sustained damage.
“We got it knocked down fairly quickly,” Karn said, adding once the fire was out, firefighters removed smoke from the main building and the outbuilding before leaving the scene.
Firefighters were on scene for about 90 minutes.
Karn said officials have not yet determined the value of damages or exactly how the fire started, though it is not considered suspicious.
