FERGUS – The Fergus Grand Theatre invites the community to celebrate World Theatre Day on March 24 at 7pm with an engaging event that highlights local talent, storytelling, and artistic excellence.

A highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the Lis Pieper Award. This annual honour recognizes a member of the local performing arts community who has demonstrated long-standing dedication and service to local theatre, celebrating the depth of talent across generations in the community.

In addition, audiences will also enjoy short scene performances by both the Elora Community Theatre and the Centre Wellington Children’s Drama Club. These performances will offer a preview of their upcoming productions and showcase the depth of talent across generations in the community.

A newer addition to the celebrations and a continuation from last year is the Theatre’s 10-Minute Play Contest.

Last December, the Theatre put out a call to Canadian playwrights to submit short scripts on a theme. The three winners of the contest have been chosen, and the scripts will be given a staged reading by local performers as part of the World Theatre Day festivities.

The theatre is currently looking for volunteer script readers. Anyone who would like to volunteer to read a part of one of the winning plays can call the box office at 519-787-1981.
