CENTRE WELLINGTON – The Fergus Grand Theatre has announced its inaugural 10 Minute Play Contest, to be presented in conjunction with the World Theatre Day 2025 festivities at the theatre on March 27.

This opportunity is aimed at showcasing the creative talent of playwrights and performers within the community and beyond – bringing together local artists, theatre enthusiasts, and the wider community to celebrate the power of theatre in a dynamic and innovative way, officials state.

Aspiring playwrights are invited to submit their 10 minute plays, with the contest theme “Change Management” – whatever that means to the playwright.

The competition is open to all Canadian residents, and all genres in spoken drama are allowed, except musicals.

Only one play per playwright is permitted, there is no fee to submit, and play submissions must be suitable for an all-ages audience.

They must also be available for a staged reading, not be previously published or produced, and contain no copyrighted material not released for use.

Deadline for submission is Dec. 23.

Each play can have a maximum of four actors and must feature minimal technical requirements.

Plays must be submitted in PDF format via email to egoudie@centrewellington.ca with the subject line “10 Minute Play Submission.”

Winning plays will be selected in January  and will receive a staged reading as part of the Fergus Grand Theatre’s World Theatre Day season launch March 27.

Winning playwrights are invited, but not required to attend. For more information, reach out to theatre coordinator, Eric Goudie at egourdie@centrewellington.ca.
