‘Feeble attempt’

Dear Editor:

The editorial by Chris Daponte (Largesse and apathy, Jan. 3) was right on the money. Governments that reward themselves excessive compensations (because they can) and then try to justify it happens all too often and at all levels.

Obviously, there was no real problem, based on your reporting of the longevity of service of senior management, so the comment by human resources director Andrea Lawson was a feeble attempt to try to justify an even more cushy compensation package.

What is the most annoying thing about government compensation levels is that their packages far exceed what is received by those that have no choice but to support them, the tired taxpayer.

The fact that so many of them are on the Sunshine List shows that they have already compensated themselves comfortably.  What adds salt to the wound is that we read that this same senior management have felt it necessary to increase the tipping charge at the dump by 50 per cent!

It is win-win for Lawson; she gets an extra week of holidays and if more employees stay, she has less to do.

David Bonk,

Erin
