Fate of Mount Forest arena in limbo
At least one area group may not be thankful that no decision has been made on the fate of the Mount Forest arena.
Marty Young, of the Mount Forest Lions Club had asked about renting the floor of the old arena at Thanksgiving this year for an event.
The decision of Wellington North’s recreation committee was to reject that request.
Councillor Dan Yake asked why.
Mayor Mike Broomhead said that, for one, the municipality is still working on a use agreement for the facility. The other issue is that the fate of that old arena is still not decided.
The municipality has been approached by another party interested in the building.
“We may not own it in October,” said Broomhead. “Therefore we can’t really say a group can have it for a specific event.”
He believes the group was told to rent space in the new Sportsplex, which will be open by that time.
