Dad is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law Joyce Smith (Sherman), his brother and sister-in-law Jack Farrelly (Sandra) sister-in-law Orma Prentice, and his dear friend Shirley Sturgeon. He is also survived by many caring nieces and nephews. Dad is predeceased by his brother-in-laws Wayne McBride and Jim Prentice, his parents Elwood and Mary (Lockhart) Farrelly and his parents-in-laws Garfied & Velma (Collier) McBride. Dad was born February 23, 1934 at his grandparent’s farm in Bon Accord. He lived his entire life, less 3 months, in Alma, being raised on a farm on the “14th” and then raised his family on the farm on the “12th”. Dad was a proud member and a past president of the Alma Optimist Club and was a Councillor for the Township of Peel/Township of Mapleton. Dad loved dancing, old cars/trucks, his Steiner tractors and loved visiting with family, friends and neighbours. Dad was happiest when he was busy; helping family, helping friends/neighbours, helping with the Optimist Club. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Groves Memorial Hospital and at the Heritage River for their care and compassion. The family received relatives and friends at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, 280 St. David Street South, Fergus, on Sunday, August 9, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00pm, and again on Monday, August 10, 2026, from 10:00 to 10:45am. A Funeral Service was held in the funeral home chapel on Monday, August 10, 2026, at 11:00am. Private family interment followed. All were welcome to remain for a reception, which was held upstairs in the Wellington Room of the funeral home immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Ted are asked to consider donating to Groves Memorial Community Hospital Foundation, or a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are entrusted to Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home.
