Fall Rural Romp returns to county Sept. 26
WELLINGTON COUNTY – Farms and food destinations across southern Wellington County are set to open their gates and doors to the public on Sept. 26 for the return of the annual Fall Rural Romp.
The free, self-guided tours run 10am to 4pm.
Visitors can meet local farmers and food producers, tour working farms, sample locally-made products and learn about the stories behind the county’s agriculture.
“Now in its 21st year, the Rural Romp has become a signature agri-tourism experience, connecting visitors with the farms, businesses and communities that shape the region’s local food landscape,” states a county news release.
Locations in Centre Wellington, Erin, Guelph/Eramosa, Puslinch and Guelph include livestock, apple orchards, pumpkin patches, flower growers, craft beverage makers, retailers and greenhouses.
Seasonal tastings will feature local foods, beverages, honey and farm-fresh products. Activities include wagon rides, corn mazes, interacting with farm animals, nature hikes and children’s activities.
Treasure hunt
Visitors can participate in the Rural Romp Treasure Hunt. Answer questions at participating locations for a chance to win one of three $100 local food gift certificates.
The event is run through the county’s Taste Real program, connecting residents with local agriculture.
