Centre Wellington has moved forward with one of the final steps needed to allow the opening of a Habitat for Humanity home in Fergus.

On Nov. 19, councillors passed a bylaw to exempt the property from certain part lot control provisions.

The exemption is needed to divide the semi-detached units into individual lots for sale.

Now in its final stages on Forfar Street East in Fergus, Habitat for Humanity Wellington Dufferin Guelph are putting the finishing touches to the semi-detached dwelling on the lot as construction is now complete.

Earlier in the meeting, councillor Mary Lloyd noted that at its fundraising dinner last week, the organization raised $38,000.

“It was a wonderful evening. But the Habitat group is still looking for more volunteers in the final push to get everything ready.”

The opening of the Habitat home in Fergus is Dec. 6.

Lloyd added, “If you are able to volunteer, they would love to hear from you.”
