Chief administrative officer Kathryn Ironmonger has not returned to work for the Town of Erin since going on “sick leave” in the last week of May.

Following a Sept. 13 closed meeting, Erin Mayor Allan Alls announced that Ironmonger’s temporary replacement would fill the role indefinitely.

“Mr. Derek McCaughan … contract’s been extended for an indefinite period (on an) as-needed basis,” Alls said.

Council passed a bylaw shortly thereafter approving the move.

Alls confirmed after the meeting that McCaughan is working full-time for the town while Ironmonger is away. McCaughan was originally hired in June to work until the end of July. On Aug. 10 his contract was extended until the end of August.

Town officials have offered no details about  Ironmonger’s extended absence. Asked on Tuesday if she is expected to return, Alls said “no comment.”

The town has also hired a temporary replacement for chief building official Carol House, who has been off on leave since the last week of May.  Robert Foster was hired on a part-time basis.
