Dorothy Melinda (Newton) Emke of Elmwood passed away at Hanover Hospital on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, in her 87th year. Wife of Russell Emke. Mother of Brian Emke & Alexandra Nabert of Elmwood, and Deborah Emke & Tim Schultz of Cookstown, and grandmother of Willow. Predeceased by her brothers Ira Newton, Ralph Newton and wife Carol, Lloyd Newton and wife Beulah, sisters Betty Newton, Velma Newton in infancy, and by her parents Howard and Jessie (Newman) Newton. Born on November 3, 1939, in Normanby Township, Dorothy grew up and helped with the family farm near Clifford. Later she worked in Bill Smith’s store in Clifford, then worked as a telephone operator at Wightmans, and finished her career as a teller at Zehrs in Hanover. She married Russell on August 10, 1969 in Elmwood. She took care of her elderly parents. Dorothy enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and gardening. Visitation was held at the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston on Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00pm, where a private family funeral service was held.  Rev. Kathy Morden officiated.
