Although the Emerald Ash Borer may have been in Puslinch for some time, it is only recently an infestation was officially declared.

On Sept. 19, councillor Wayne Stokley noted a recent GRCA report which stated Puslinch had been infected by the Emerald Ash Borer.

“I’m just wondering if we have an idea of the extent of the infestation at this time and whether we are doing anything about that?”

Mayor Dennis Lever said Wellington County is cognizant of this and that Puslinch was forwarded some correspondence to that affect earlier this year.

He said that while the county is looking into the situation, he was uncertain of any current plans. “It is very expensive,” to deal with it.

Councillor Susan Fielding said some people found it somewhat ironic when the announcement was made.

“Several people were of the opinion that they’ve been in Puslinch for quite a while.”

“Trees have been destroyed, but I don’t know how many are required before it is considered an infestation.”

Lever agreed he believed it had to reach a certain level before being declared.
