Elora man holding mini food drive

ELORA – John Schenk decided it was time to give back to the community that has allowed him to live a good, happy 80 years of life.

So he’s opening his garage and taking donations for the Centre Wellington Food Bank.

“I’ve been very fortunate,” Schenk said in a phone interview.

“I have a healthy family and we’re doing okay. But I know there are many who aren’t doing so well. I felt I wanted to do something.”

Schenk will be accepting food donations until Dec. 5, when he’ll deliver whatever is collected to the food bank.

Anyone can drop off non-perishable food items if the garage door is open at his home (16 Cutting Dr., Elora).

Schenk said he closes down around 8pm.

“I’m doing this for my neighbours, and that’s everyone in Centre Wellington.”
