Elora House hosting first golf tourney

ELORA – Elora House is hosting its first golf tournament in September and is seeking golfers and sponsors.

“Co-operators did this for us last year,” said executive director Luisa Krause. “This is the first year we’re doing it on our own.”

The event will be held on Sept. 21 at Ariss Valley Golf and Country Club. The $175 entry fee includes a day of golf, some swag, and dinner.

Those who don’t want to golf but still support the organization can attend the dinner only for $50.

“We need golfers, sponsors, prizes…” Krause said.

“People in Fergus and Elora are starting to respond. But the more people that know about it, the better.”

There are many options for sponsors – from $10,000 for a title event sponsor to $500 to sponsor a hole.

Krause has set a lofty goal to raise $100,000 from the event. That is what Elora House needs to cover its expenses – but whatever is raised will help, she said.

Elora House is a residential treatment centre for women escaping human trafficking. It opened in March 2020 and to-date has had 40 women through its doors. It does not receive any government funding.

“People love to play golf,” Krause said. “If they are looking for a way to play and support a good cause, here we are.”

The deadline to register if Sept. 5. For more information, visit elorahouse.com.
